The Quote By Henry James

True happiness, we are told, consists in getting out of one’s self, but the point is not only to get out – you must stay out; and to stay out you must have some absorbing errand.

–       Henry James

This quote is from James’ literary work Roderick Hudson – which I admit I haven’t read, although I have often been drawn to some of his quotes. James’ had a fascination with consciousness and the workings of the mind, and I suppose I’m drawn to his quotes because I share the same fascination.

This particular quote though – the quote I use to begin the novel INDUCED AMNESIA – is one of my favorite quotes. So why did I find it fitting for this particular novel? Well, let’s be honest…….we ALL want true happiness. And it’s an elusive, driving force within us – the unicorn of the consciousness – and no matter how far away from it we slip, there’s a haunting of it pulling us back up. But the mystery for so many is: where is it and how do we keep it? Hence the immense popularity of the self-help industry. Immense! People from around the globe want to know the secret of inner happiness. And the hunt accumulates more and more souls each and every day as year after year passes.

We search outside ourselves – self-medicating, buying, eating, fighting, displaying – and then, we search inside – burning up our consciousness, winding up emotion and getting lost inside our own heads. But our focus is on ourselves. When really, I think Henry James had something with that quote back in the late 1800’s. We all need to start focus outside ourselves.

When I started to consider Chloe, amnesia aside, I knew she needed an errand. Something to draw her away from herself, up and out, even if that was only an errand for her soul. But errands like that remind us of the reality of how small we are in the universe, and how we are all connected by energy. Focusing on the nurture of another’s soul is an empowering errand I think. And when we fulfill those types of errands, it cosmically feeds and empowers us too. Oprah is a beaming example of this power and peace. And that happiness, that peace, is real.

Let’s Talk About Why INDUCED AMNESIA Is So important To Share

Life, money, love, pain, the pursuit of the highs our society parades – it’s like a collar that gets slipped around our necks with our acceptance in striving for contentment. A collar with the world at the end of the leash attached to it – yanking, pulling, guiding. Sometimes it’s all right; many times it’s unbearable.

~Excerpt from INDUCED AMNESIA

We all have visions of the person we really want to be – that strong, happy, successful, beautiful version of who we know we were really meant to be. And that person is there. We all do know it – somewhere very deep inside – they’re there. But this world, our societies, can be overwhelming, noisy, confusing and at times, down right toxic. I think Chloe’s take on it (above) describes it perfectly. Being human, having a consciousness, may be extraordinary, sacred and empowering, but at times, for some people, it can be ruinous and demonic. It’s a power deep inside us that paradoxically can heal and destroy.

Depression should not be something we avoid in conversation. It should not be taboo. And it should not take a life. There are ways to cope, deal, heal and overcome depression – even clinical depression. But unfortunately today it’s becoming all too prevalent – it’s a war we need to start addressing and fighting, with weapons that need to be shared. It’s a cause that should bind our spirits because I do believe it’s a strong by-product of the separation that’s growing as humans, as a world that is very much linked and connected to one another on a strong physics level, whether we want to acknowledge it or not. If it’s not a battle you’ve had, it is for someone you know, whether you know it or not.

And so the premise for INDUCED AMNESIA began to be born. I wanted Chloe Gunn to be any girl, and every girl. I wanted this novel to resound with people just like you. I wanted to connect with people, and share information and power, that I know now, works. I want us all to win.  And for these reasons, I want this novel to find its way out there……I hope it helps someone, anyone…….even if it is just one.

Real stats by WHO….

  • Major depressive disorder is the leading cause of disability in the U.S. and established market economies worldwide.
  • Major depressive disorder affects approximately 9.9 million American adults, or about 5.0 percent of the U.S. population age 18 and older in a given year.
  • Nearly twice as many women (6.5 percent) as men (3.3 percent) suffer from major depressive disorder each year. These figures translate to 6.7 million women and 3.2 million men.
  • While major depressive disorder can develop at any age, the average age at onset is the mid-20s.
  • Clinical depression affects about 16% of the population on at least one occasion in their lives.
  • It should be noted that these numbers are only for those who report or receive treatment for depression; men are less likely to report feeling depressed, and also less likely to seek treatment, possibly due to gender roles. Clinical depression is currently the leading cause of disability in North America as well as other countries, and is expected to become the second leading cause of disability worldwide (after heart disease) by the year 2020, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

In the United States, around 3.4% of people with major depression commit suicide, and up to 60% of people who commit suicide had depression or another mood disorder.

Sneeky Peek into INDUCED AMNESIA…

Excerpts from INDUCED AMNESIA…

What if we can create a completely new existence, by creating a new, healthy mind; one that knows only peace, happiness, strength; one that’s resistant to negativity and fear? What if we can manifest a physical change that produces a profound, strong mind emotionally, intellectually and even, spiritually; one that can withstand the ugliness of this world; one that cannot comprehend weakness, failure or surrender? What if we can undo all damage done to the psyche and reprogram it with perfect balance?

“We need to remember the inception of how we got here – all of us – it began with a question, a lingering, almost lifelong for some, question. What would happen if you could purposefully remove human brain input – that part of us, that evolutionary model of who we are and how we perceive – and restart; causing the brain to evolve on a brand new level, a stronger level – mentally, emotionally and even, spiritually?”

“Incapacitating chaos is what comes after the removal part,” snaps Dana.

Temporary chaos,” injects Dr. Schreyer.

Lingering,” adds Alicia.

“I get that it’s not easy,” Dr. Schreyer sighs. “Remember though, Chloe wanted this, and essentially as difficult as this phase may be, she got what she wanted.”

“I don’t know that drowning in oblivion is what she had in mind,” Dana says.

***

“Clinical depression they say is chemical, and it is. It’s been proven. But it’s something that’s typically triggered. We’re all born happy; but somewhere along the way, at some point in time, something deep inside changes for some people. Pain, loss, stress, fear – exposure to those dark emotions creates a chemical reaction in our brain – and some of us get stuck there.” Chloe fidgets to get comfortable. “So, the big question for some doctors was: what if those events and their emotions were erased? What if you could rewind? What if …… you could erase painful experiences and undo core beliefs that are dark, ill-serving and weak?”

***

“They say – be careful what you ask for – and it is true. We just don’t fully comprehend that on a cosmic energy level, but it’s so true. And I don’t mean vocally or even consciously; but deep down, at our core, unconsciously, soulfully.”

Reading a novel with Lana Del Rey

Nothing sets the mood better than music – at least for me. I’m a HUGE music lover and virtually have it playing all the time. I’m even known for constantly being seen outside with my earphones on (and the people who know me are driven crazy by it lol). I hate going anywhere without tunes.

There are songs that are quite linked to my novel INDUCED AMNESIA for me, and one of the strongest artists that seemed to connect me to the mood of the book was Lana Del Rey. I think she’s not only an exceptional artist (and I mean that above and beyond her great voice). Her writing, creativity and videos are haunting and amazing.

Having said all that, I suggest starting the novel INDUCED AMNESIA by watching her video for Ride – it’s a super mood-setter for the character, Chloe Gunn.

Enjoy peeps!! XO

Available Now To Read…

INDUCED AMNESIA is now available through all major e-publishers!!! Please share this – ( & no pressure to buy the novel unless it’s something that interests you) – but please let people know it’s there to check out……

Back jacket info to INDUCED AMNESIA

Imagine feeling so much pain that you would be willing to give up every memory and every person you know to start over – absolutely nothing left behind you and only a new slate to look forward to – providing you live through the process.

Chloe Gunn has everything any young girl should want, yet she wants to die, and just can’t bring herself to do it. Instead, she volunteers for an unprecedented medical trial to induce amnesia where the answer seems simple: erase her mind and erase the pain.

Drowning in pain, Chloe begins to sleepwalk through her own life, doing whatever she can to numb the ache. Even when she survives a horrific car crash, her low-spirited view is unrelenting. So, when Chloe discovers an ad for an amnesia-inducing experiment in a medical journal, it shines like a beacon.

And Chloe isn’t alone. Even the young, beautiful, rich and famous actress, Victoria Palmer has become intimately acquainted with the slippery hole of depression. The Academy Award winner just dropped from the map at the height of her fame following wildly publicized substance abuse, a scandalized broken engagement and an affair with a married man. Yet sizzling hot commodities just don’t drop out of the limelight, which leaves the paparazzi to doggedly and publically speculate as to why?

Miles across the country, and just like Chloe who’s caught in her own personal nightmare, Victoria craves any desperate escape out as well. But will she find it before it becomes too late?

“Think – the novel, The Bell Jar, blended with the movie, Sixth Sense…….an emotional, metaphysical ride down, and up – and where it stops, is in the unforeseen.”

#InducedAmnesia & Me

It’s honest to say that INDUCED AMNESIA is the novel that contains perhaps the most semi-autobiographical glimpses of me personally, that is in relation to any of my other novels completed (A Perfect Assassin, Jaded and Sanctuary to-date). However, it’s not just the emotional pain of love lost or the depression suffering that reveals real glimpses, this novel is filled with a constant mix of fiction meets real, from the down-slide of where the novel begins to the practices and lessons that bring it back up. Like so many of you, I’ve had periods of intense, emotional suffering, and I have a family – and personal – history with depression, but I’m also an avid reader in regard to metaphysics, spirituality and self-help. I now meditate often and believe not only in strengthening the mind and spirit, but doing it on a consistent basis to maintain peace and success, in anything.

I started out to write a novel with a unique concept, and hopefully readers agree and enjoy the journey. There was careful purpose to INDUCED AMNESIA having three parts – with Part One being about Chloe, Part Two being the amnesia experiment and Part Three about Victoria – this effect doesn’t hinder the flow, but it serves relevance by the end. There was also careful consideration to the lack of detailed description to each main character, particularly the two key characters, Chloe and Victoria. I wanted them to be any girl and every girl – they could be you, your friend, your sister or cousin, or just simply, the girl next door. For while I hope this novel is entertaining, I also hope that readers identify. There’s a great amount of realism in this novel of fantasy/fiction.

This novel does start out unrepentantly dark, but it does surface into hope and a path to strength. And so, it is my hope that INDUCED AMNESIA takes you as the reader on a ride that keeps moving with momentum and leaves you with questions, and answers, all at the same time.

I hope you enjoy! And if you do, please recommend it to others – I’d be so very grateful for any and all support. But please……don’t spoil the end for others!

Could Amnesia Really Be The Answer To Depression?

WHY Amnesia? Well, let’s be honest – many, many people, boy or girl, young and old, have had some experience with depression on some level – and many have even had thoughts of escape, even if briefly. Thankfully most people do not really want to, and do not, die, but it’s that part of us that makes us unique on this planet, that consciousness, that has had us think about it, however fleetingly. How many of us have had moments, even brief ones, where we would give up every memory to be free of pain and restart?

There’s also that question they hypothesize in the novel INDUCED AMNESIA – depression is chemical, yes, but it is triggered. Painful experiences are the triggers. So what if those were erased? Would that mind still sag under the veil of depression, or is that veil lifted with the memories and discarded all in one motion with amnesia? I have to admit, I’ve personally wondered how effective that would be, and how many of us would really run to do it, if it could indeed happen. It’s a tidy way to clean up a painful past. And what if they could accurately just remove event chunks and leave the rest? Would you do it then? I would say yes to the latter, but that’s me personally.

Now this brings up another question, and something to be considered on a much deeper, spiritual, metaphysical level – wouldn’t removing the painful memory also hinder, or stop, any needed growth (emotionally/spiritually)? Would it negate it? And without that growth as only uniquely humans can develop, what would become of us as a society? Better, or worse? Weaker, or stronger? Undoubtedly such an act would have a large impact down the road, but I think if we view what we do know of the laws of our universe, even on a physics level, the reality is we need counterforce, chaos, or entropy to re-organize into something stronger, more efficient, more evolved. If we are energy, and indeed we are, then we know that we in fact need the factors that force growth to propel forward. They say – every law in the universe leads, ultimately, in the direction of balance. And so adds to the metaphysical argument for entropy – Chaos or harmony? Broken or perfection? And now thinking about it, aren’t they the very same from a grander universal view if you could pull back into the cosmos?

So, could amnesia really be the answer to depression? Perhaps, on a temporal basis, but the universal laws of this world would catch up once again, breaking down and polishing those parts of us that have forgotten we’re part of a larger whole. The laws of the universe will always push us toward harmony.

Author’s Note

“INDUCED AMNESIA is more about metaphysics and adopting empowering concepts in relation to the world we all live in; and while the story includes characters with clinical depression, it is not meant as a handbook or non-fictional statement about the disease itself. This is a work of fiction; however, I can offer my readers that such periods of darkness, in varying degrees and for various reasons, are something I have experienced, and I’m certain that it’s a common thread we all share as part of our human experience. It’s a thread I’m hoping will connect us all – where those of us who have transcended the darkness can assure those in it that it’s indeed very possible to come out better and stronger – it’s even probable in fact.

INDUCED AMNESIA is coming soon…

Induced Amnesia Book Cover_1 (1)HERE’s the cover peeps…….and here’s to hoping that lots of you like it! Even more important to me is that I’m hoping the novel creates a connection to others who can relate with the main character, Chloe Gunn. How many of us would take that step if it could/would be realistically offered during our darkest period? There are times I absolutely would’ve.

**According to NIMH, 18.8 million American
adults alone suffer from depression and it’s growing each year – keeping in
mind that many suffer alone and never report it or seek help. According to WHO,
15% of the population of the most developed countries suffer from depression.
This is not just a North American issue.

November is the month!! INDUCED AMNESIA will be available on all major e-book publisher stores. Look for the release announcement…
